In his new book, Full–Spectrum Thinking: How to Escape Boxes in a Post-Categorical Future, Johansen addresses the limitation of what he calls categorical thought: assuming that new experiences will fit into old buckets, labels, and generalizations. 

“A full-spectrum mindset is a great place to start in order to make sense out of ourselves, the world around us, and the future,” Johansen writes.
