Do we really need to celebrate Women’s Day?

Let’s NOT celebrate women’s day! And I mean it.

Now, before you get me wrong, let me tell you that we don’t need an occasion to celebrate women’s day. It should be ingrained in our DNA, as well as the DNA of our organization. Women need to be recognized and respected every single day – not just on a Women’s Day.

How many of you agree with my thought that every day is a women’s day? And why not, women are a truly fascinating creation, and without them our world would make no sense!

As I like to put it, they rock the cradle with one hand and spin the globe on the tips of their fingers.

Our First Teacher
In the ancient days, as our scriptures reveal, women enjoyed equal status in the society, and participated in all spheres of governance. And why not! Every one of us is here because of them, and for the vast majority of us, they are – in their infinite wisdom – our first companion and our first teacher.

But somewhere along the road, we lose sight of those learnings. Today, the gender gap is terrifyingly glaring, and in many parts of the globe women are subject to unspeakable amounts of discrimination and violence.

Women Torchbearers

I know celebrating Women’s Day is a way of expressing our gratitude to the women in our world who change our lives for the better in so many ways. In my 30+ years in the industry, I have had the good fortune of interacting with several super achievers, many of whom happen to be women. From veterans like Indra Nooyi and Kamala Harris to young and rising leaders, like Hima Das, the world has gifted us so many inspirational women.

And many more are hidden away in the fabric of our society, waiting for a helping hand to overcome obstacles to their success.

Take the pledge

As business leaders, it’s our duty to enable them – by building a culture of empowerment, through the right mentoring programs, and the right tools and technologies – to break the barriers and the glass ceiling. And, that’s been one of our topmost priorities at Phoenix Business Consulting.

International Women’s Day is just round the corner. But at Phoenix, every day is no less than Women’s Day.

How have you pledged to enable the women in your organization?

Let me know your thoughts.
